As of last night we have had four baby calves, three alive, out of our herd that we keep at Chunky's. They will get moved back to our place as soon as it dries up a bit more. So this means we are almost half way done calving!!!! We took Bryce to see the calves last night and he was already in his pajamas but that didn't stop him from getting up close to them.

A Mucky Branding
Today was the yearly branding at Cody's brother's place. We had just about 40 calves to vaccinate and tag. Its called a 'Branding', yet no cattle were harmed in these events. The kids had a blast....all ten of them plus the men. Lee usually has his crew rope the calves and drag them to the 'nord-fork' by horse and then vaccinate and tag but due to mud, we ran them through the chute instead. This takes less than a hour to do but the main event follows.....the delicious meal and 'visiting'. All in all it was a great muddy day and the parents all thank Leanne for washing clothes after the fun was had.

This is proof how muddy it was in the corrals
How many kids does it take to push up one calf?
The smaller kids watching in a better spot with Grandma C
Chunky moving them up the alley
The Walthams watching the action
Layton pushing as hard as he can
Dylan overseeing the work
The calves finished....can you pick out the replacement calf we bought when ours died?
Jessie demonstrating how we usually brand...with a rope
Herding the calves back to their moms when the work was done
